Participatory Science Project

Get Involved

We are not currently accepting any new volunteers for the Fall 2024 season.

Project Owlnet at SERC is entirely run by volunteers. We would not be able to collect as much data and contribute to our collective knowledge about Northern Saw-Whet Owl migration without your help.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to volunteer, volunteers need to meet the following requirements:

  • At least 16 years old
  • Register for Project 101 webinar. By registering, you can attend live or watch the recording afterwards.
  • Commit to setting up the mist nets on October 19th at 9 am.
  • Able to join us for 1-2 full evenings during the Fall 2024 season.
    • A full evening starts at 5/6 pm depending on daylight savings and goes until midnight.
    • The Fall season will be every night from October 16th to November 27th.

Location and Days/Times

For the Fall 2024 season, we will be at the Reed Center in Edgewater, MD every evening (5/6 pm until 12 am) from October 16th to November 27th.
