My research in Marine Policy falls within the climate and marine systems and deals with global problems of marine invasions, air pollution, and GHG emissions from global shipping activities and international trade. I study shipping-borne environmental issues within a coupled human and natural system, including economics, trade, climate policy, technological policymaking, network science, and marine ecology. I am interested in various aspects of policy analysis, including environmental justice, technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and economic impacts.
Practical experiences: International Maritime Organization, shipping companies, China Maritime Administration, Clarksons Research. I serving as the membership coordinator at the Marine Environment Committee of Transportation Research Board.
Past projects are funded by: U.S. Coast Guard, Oak Ridge National Lab (ORNL), U.S. Department of Transportation Maritime Administration (DOT MARAD), U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Korean Institute of Marine Science and Technology (KIMST), and NSF Coastal SEES Project.
