Event Details

By 1750, the colonized portion of Maryland had become a cosmopolitan society with a rich urban life, a productive agricultural economy, some emerging manufacturing industries and a scientific community in regular communication with the intellectual culture of Europe. This was the backdrop of the last of the colonial wars fought between the kingdoms of Great Britain and France for supremacy in North America.

This is the first in a series of talks that will examine the road to independence, hosted by the SERC Environmental Archaeology Lab. The illustrated presentation will offer a glimpse of life in Maryland on the eve of the Seven Years' War, better known in the U.S. as the French & Indian War. All "Histories Revealed" talks will take place in person, in our 1735 Woodlawn History Center. Come for the talk and explore the artifacts and stories in the historic home.
